Chris Nicholson, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Streatham, has expressed concern about the impact of Post Office closures on the local community ahead of the announcement of proposed Post Office closures in London on Tuesday, February 19th.
Chris Nicholson fears that several post offices around the local area may be shut.
"I have talked to a number of sub postmasters over the last week and they are very apprehensive." Chris commented. "There are all sorts of rumours flying around as to how many might close with figures as high as ten being mentioned. Not only will this affect the Sub Post Offices themselves and those who rely on them, but it could also have a devastating effect on other local shops. Many Sub Post Offices are based in small shopping parades which could be devastated if their local Post Office closes. The shopping parades in Leigham Vale in Streatham, Elm Park in Brixton and Cavendish Rd in Balham spring immediately to mind. This could be the death of the local corner shop in some areas."
"Liberal Democrats believe that local Post Offices should be invested in, not closed down. We will fight with local residents and shopkeepers to preserve this vital community resource" Chris added.
