A 'Top Cop' is back in charge of running Streatham Police Station. New Lambeth Borough Police Commander Nick Ephgrave has put Superintendent Paul Wilson in to head up Streatham Police station. In 2008 Streatham Police Station lost its Police Superintendent as part of the downgrading of Streatham Police Station prior to its planned closure.
Streatham Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Streatham Chris Nicholson has welcomed the plans of new Lambeth Borough Police Commander Nick Ephgrave to strengthen policing from Streatham police station. It was also confirmed that a police response team will be kept in Streatham- so rejecting the previous plans to have a single police response team for the Borough based on an industrial estate. In Commander Ephgrave's view, a dedicated Streatham police response team is vital to good policing in the area.
"This is great news" said Chris Nicholson. "Not only has the Metropolitan Police Authority rejected the plans to close Streatham Police Station, but now Streatham has got back its Police Superintendent. It is also very heartening that the new Borough police Commander has clearly stated that he sees a fully functioning police station with a response team as being vital for good policing in Streatham. I am delighted that the arguments made by local residents and local Liberal Democrats to support Streatham police station have been listened to"
