Local Liberal Democrat Chris Nicholson is leading efforts to achieve a 10% reduction in carbon emissions by the end of 2010.
At the Liberal Democrat conference in Bournemouth a month ago, Chris moved a motion and gained his party's backing to support the pledge.
Following on from that, the Liberal Democrats are tabling a motion in the House of Commons on Wednesday to commit Parliament and the Government to cut their emissions by 10% next year.
Chris commented: "The next few months are critically important in our efforts to tackle the climate crisis. In December world leaders will meet in Copenhagen to seek a global agreement to address the escalating climate crisis.
Now is the time for action on climate change, not just more warm words and hot air. Parliament has a chance today to demonstrate Britain's commitment to address climate change.
The Labour party has had twelve years in government and failed for too long to take the serious action needed to prevent the climate crisis. The Conservatives talk the talk but policies to deal with these issues urgently have dropped a long way down their agenda. On Wednesday, the two other main parties are challenged to match their actions to their words.
