Cancer is the biggest cause of death in the UK. The Liberal Democrats believe in making cancer care a priority throughout NHS. They advocate more screening campaigns to detect cancer early and would remove the upper age limit of 70 for breast cancer screening and 65 for cervical cancer screening as the cancer is more common later in life. The Liberal Democrats are committed to a more efficient NHS where new techniques enable
treatment with fewer risks and less inconvenience to the patient.
Chris has also signed the Breast Cancer Campaign's Cancer Research Election Pledge.
This research pledge calls for candidates to support the medical research which saves and enriches the lives of people with breast cancer. Around 46,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK and one in nine women will be diagnosed in their lifetime. Therefore it is very important that this medical research continues to find new ways to save lives and make the lives of the terminally ill more bearable.
Chris and the Liberal Democrats are committed to fair cancer care and treatment, not based on a lottery or according to a patent's ethnicity, class or age.
Everyone should have the right to the same quality of care wherever they live.
