Chris Nicholson wants to hear your views on how to improve Streatham High Road.

Streatham High Road is in danger of once again being thought of as Britain's worst high street, a place that people go through rather than go to. Many local people have recently noticed a decline in the standard of street cleaning and are frustrated by Lambeth Labour's lack of progress on plans to make the road more pedestrian friendly which were drawn up by the last Liberal Democrat led Council.

The High Road has also recently lost its dedicated Post Office despite a well-supported campaign by the Streatham Lib Democrats to keep it open, and the area has also been plagued by several high-profile incidents of serious crime.

The new Lib Dem plan demands:

1) A deep clean and more frequent road sweeping

2) High quality landmark developments of Safeway & Caesars/Megabowl

3) End the delays to the High Rd refurbishment

4) Better shopping and more support for local small traders

5) A dedicated police team to patrol our High Road

As part of their campaign on reviving the High Road, the Streatham Lib Dems have launched an on line survey at www.libertyresearch.org.uk/take/255 in order to ask High Road shoppers want from their local high street.

Local Lib Dem campaigner Chris Nicholson, was himself out on the High Road on Saturday to ask people what they thought:

"I think it's clear that the High Road is not getting the attention it deserves from the Council." Chris said. "Residents felt that it was finally turning the corner when the Liberal Democrats ran Lambeth but now under Labour it seems to be going backward fast. Even a Labour Councillor has admitted that roads in Streatham are getting dirtier"

"Streatham Hill and Streatham High Road should be landmarks that local people can feel proud of, but local services are in such a decline this just can't happen."

"I hope that the Streatham Lib Dems' rescue plan for the High Road will be a step in the right direction, ensuring that the needs of Streatham High Road are taken notice of by Lambeth Council."
