Liberal Democrats slam plan to close Post Offices in Streatham, Clapham and Brixton12.00.00pm GMT Tue 19th Feb 2008 Chris Nicholson, the local Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Streatham has slammed plans announced today (Tuesday the 19th) to close a total of 5 Post Offices in Streatham, Brixton and Clapham. (1) as part of the Government's plans to close 169 Post Offices across London.
"These proposals are devastating for the local residents affected as well as for the local businesses who rely on the trade attracted to the local shopping parades" commented Chris. " My own local Post Office in Abbeville Rd Clapham is one of those on the hit list and it is hard to think of a more thriving and busy local Post Office. What is particularly crazy is that the Post Office are proposing to close two neighbouring Post Offices in Clapham High St and Acre Lane, and the closest alternative in Poynders Rd is due to be demolished as part of the Clapham Park redevelopment! Our campaign to save the local Post Offices starts today!" Notes 1) Post Offices affected are in 1)Abbeville Rd, Clapham, 2)Clapham High St, 3)Acre Lane, Brixton 4)Streatham Place, Streatham (this Post Office is already temporarily closed but it is proposed to make this permanent) and 5) Hermitage Lane, Streatham Related Links:Save Abbeville Road Post Office Petition Save Acre Lane Post Office Petition
